DEI efforts mainly focus on strategies and best practices toward racial, gender, generational, disability, social and sexual orientation diversity, leading to the "isms' of racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, classism and homophobia. Typically, when people talk about DEI, they are talking about it in a domestic context, working to be more inclusive of groups within their own country (e.g., Blacks and women in the United States, women or disabled people in France or Afro-Brazilians in Brazil). DEI is generally housed under HR unless there is a Chief Diversity Officer or Head of DEI which is becoming increasingly communion some countries. These days, it is often done in-house, but DEI also requires support from outside partners to include a diversity of perspectives and avoid blindspots.

To communicate effectively with people from different cultures, an informed approach is necessary and English is generally the common language. However, to guarantee impactful and engaging communication, just speaking the same language is not enough.
