Development & Training Solutions

About Pamela Strawgate

In 2008, Pamela created Development & Training Solutions, her own intercultural skills training and coaching activity. This was in response to the increased demand for intercultural training from her English communications clients. Pamela has been a professional English language and communications trainer and coach since 1997.

Most recently, Pamela trained with Richard Lewis and Michael Gates in Hampshire England to become a trainer and facilitator of the Lewis Model and CultureActive tool. She also trained in 2015 with Milton Bennett in Milan Italy in his Constructivist Intercultural Communication approach. In 2014, Pamela completed two intercultural training programs: she became a certified facilitator of Fons Trompenaars' Intercultural Awareness Profile  assessment. Pamela successfully participated in additional intercultural training through the Comparative Research Network in Berlin Germany, working with a multicultural group of trainers on methods of European Intercultural Stimulation, dealing with immigration and integration issues. Previously, Pamela pursued her intercultural awareness training in 2012 and acquired a certificate in "Developing Intercultural Training Skills, Level 1" from LTS consulting and training in Bath, England. She completed Level 2 at LTS in 2015. In 2011, Pamela started her formal intercultural training and achieved a Business Cultural Trainer Certificate from the International House in Paris.

Pamela started as a part-time trainer for The William Penn School working privately with executives and small groups in the Paris region. In addition to her highly effective coaching, she uses the proven Penn Method(c) among other approaches to improve English language communication with her clients. Pamela completed a year-long coach training program in 2004 with CoachUp Institut where she earned certification as a professional life and business coach. In 2006, Pamela became a certified Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner. She regularly participates in continuing education programs in the United States and throughout Europe to stay up-to-date with advancements and new techniques in the training, intercultural and coaching fields.

A native of New York who grew up in Los Angeles, Pamela graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a BA degree in Sociology and Political Science. After further studies and graduation from Paris' famous Cordon Bleu Cooking School, Pamela decided in 1988 to settle in Paris where she pursued a long and successful international hospitality career. She spent more than 20 years working as General Manager, Catering Director and Operations  Manager with companies such as Hilton, Sofitel and Sodexo. Pamela's specialty was troubleshooting - taking a business in difficulty and turning it into a flourishing operation where everyone won. Her professional success is due to her open-mindedness, effective communications and vast intercultural experience.

Pamela continues to travel extensively around Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and North America, something she started while working in the international hospitality industry, She has lived and  worked for a time in Tahiti and Monaco. She is particularly proud of her work with a multicultural team for Sodexho at the 2000 Summer Olympics Games in Sydney, Australia

Pamela is also an active volunteer in a variety of organizations and causes such as EthicalCoach, UC Berkeley Alumni AssociationProfessional Women's Network (PWN Global), IATEFL, Business English Special Interest Group (BESIG), Fondation Casip Cojasor, and SOS Femmes Accueil among others.

As a result of this vast and varied experience, Pamela has acquired strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Her clients appreciate her creativity, acute listening skills, and her generosity as well as her frankness, enthusiasm and her unfailing professionalism. What is perhaps most valued by clients are the results - a clearer and more effective communication with greater ease.
